A key part of the residency was the exchange — with musicians, field recordists and sound designers from different backgrounds, all listening to the same environment in different ways. A central theme throughout was the dialogue between science and art: how a sound artist can take what ecologists and researchers understand about a place and translate it into something people can actually feel.
Recording in one of the world's most biodiverse environments offered a direct way to explore how that biodiversity translates into sound. I'm now working with the material through spectrograms and other forms of visual sound analysis, alongside deep listening, as part of translating these recordings into new pieces.
